In this section one may find the texts resulting from the debates celebrated during the edition of IDENSITAT 2001-2002 in the CCCB (Centre of Contemporary Culture in Barcelona). Under the concept of Urban Participation and Cultural Representation, talks took place about urban transformation and from the specific perspective of the historical nucleus and the peripheral quarters of three cities: Barcelona, Sant Adrià de Besòs and Jerez de la Frontera.
In the case of Jerez de la Frontera, some specific aspects, stated by the administration, were remarked. These were aspects dealing with new ways of facing the plans for rebuilding the town’s old centre. In the case of the South Area quarter, there was an active participation of people linked to its associative network. South Area is a quarter that fights for transformation and social structuring, as well as it demands participative methodologies which include its inhabitants’ opinion about urban planning. In addition to all this, there will be a close dialogue with another context, that of Barcelona city and Sant Adrià de Besòs, through the quarters of the Raval and La Mina, both undergoing now a transformation that implies a complex management, one of the type required more and more in a dialogic implication of multiple agents.
